OpenAI launches GPT-4o: A Faster, Multimodal AI Model

OpenAI GPT-4o

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-4o, an enhanced version of its GPT-4 model, renowned for powering ChatGPT. The new model was announced by CTO Mira Murati offering significantly faster performance and improved text, vision, and audio capabilities. GPT-4o is available for free to all users, while paid users will enjoy up to five times the capacity limits of free users.

CEO Sam Altman highlighted that GPT-4o is "natively multimodal," capable of generating content and understanding commands in voice, text, or images. Developers can access the API, which is half the price and twice as fast as GPT-4 Turbo. New voice mode features enable ChatGPT to function as a real-time voice assistant.

OpenAI's focus has shifted from open-sourcing AI models to providing them through paid APIs for developers. This strategic move precedes Google's anticipated AI product launches at Google I/O.
